Born in United States in 1928, Maya Angelou was an African American writer, a poet, an actress and a civil rights fervent activist. In sixties, she has worked with Malcolm X and later Martin Luther King to fight racial discrimination. She is most known for her memoir « I know the Caged Bird Sings » which made history as the first nonfiction best seller by an African American woman. Maya Angelou has received many awards for her literacy work.
In 1993, the former president Bill Clinton requested that she composed a poem for his inauguration. “On the Pulse of Morning” has since become one of her most famous works. She died in 2014. Today, she continues to be a source of inspiration for so many.
